Gladstone Park Bowls Club is one step closer to getting its second floodlit synthetic bowling green after Hume council endorsed a recommendation for its development.
The proposal, put to council’s Monday 27 October meeting, outlined the construction of a second floodlit synthetic green as the most balanced and achievable option to support the club’s long-term sustainability.
The project, projected to cost approximately $1.37 million will be jointly funded through $946,000 allocated by council across 2025-27 and a $1 million federal government election commitment.
Cr Naim Kurt spoke of the need for the second turf due to the club’s growing capacity.
“There’s about a catchment of 1350 participants who use the club and there is a growing need for a second green to manage all of the capacity issues which are occurring there,” Cr Kurt said.
“It’s good for sport, it’s good for seniors, it’s good for community, it’s good for the established areas and it’s going to be a great drawcard for the south of the city as well.”
The new green planned for the bowls club on Carrick Drive will double the club’s on-green capacity and enable year-round play, which is projected to support growth in the club’s social programs, pennant teams, and all-abilities access.
The project will now progress into a detailed design and grant submission stage.
