Get ready for the walking football program in Epping

This school holiday break, get ready to kick and have fun with the walking football program designed for families.

Walking Football 4 Health is holding two free school holiday sessions in Epping on July 2 and July 9.

The club president Mick Trim said the program is for everyone, from 7 to 107 years old, bringing people together in a safe and fun space.

The beauty of walking football lies in its simplicity and safety.

Mr Trim said, “It’s a non-contact sport with rules that ensure a safe environment for everyone. As long as you can walk, you can play.

“Walking Football 4 Health Victoria encourages families and individuals, regardless of age, ability, gender, or ethnicity, to become active, healthy and fit by playing walking football.”

The Walking Football 4 Health program originated in Singapore in 2019 and has quickly spread to other countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and Korea.

Now, it is gaining momentum in Australia, with the first program already launched and more to come.

In addition to regular sessions, the club will collaborate with Disability Sports Australia to offer inclusive sessions for people with disabilities.

Mr Trim said he personally benefits from walking football.

He shared his story of getting fibromyalgia, which prevented him from running or playing traditional sports, and walking football benefits him as it allows him to stay active.
