Geoff Porter has earned himself a place in the history books.

The veteran Meadow Valley Ward councillor became the first person elected as Hume mayor three times when he was sworn into the position on Wednesday night.

The school teacher has pledged to make Hume an “education precinct”.

“If Victoria is the education state, I want to see Hume become the education precinct,” Cr Porter said.

“In keeping with this, I am committed to programs and initiatives that will support local jobs and skills for people, especially for our young people.

“In particular, I believe it’s incredibly important for our community to have access to the infrastructure and services they need to be safe and healthy, as well as access to education and learning.”

Cr Porter- a lifelong Jacana resident- also encouraged residents to take pride in their community by proactively reporting graffiti, dumped rubbish and litter.

“I am extremely proud of having grown up here, and I encourage our community to have pride in this great city, he said.

“Working together we can make a difference.”

Aitken Creek Ward councillor Carly Moore was elected as deputy mayor.
