Funding for Hume

Hume council will receive a $2.6 million federal government grant as a part of an urban precinct development project.

The announcement was made on Tuesday 14 October by McEwan MP Rob Mitchell and Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King.

The funding will support the planning for a proposed precinct, brought forward by a collaboration between Hume, Mitchell and Whittlesea councils as well as the project’s developer Stockland Wurundjeri to create a regional hub of employment, transport, housing and community activity on Cloverton Boulevard in Kalkallo.

“This new precinct will feature a thriving transport hub and mixed-use precinct and will be one of the most ambitious urban planning projects in Australia,” Mr Mitchell said.

The funding is part of a broader $7 million to support the planning and development of innovative urban precincts across Melbourne.

“Our cities and suburbs are growing. These projects demonstrate how governments, businesses and communities can work together to create innovative spaces that meet the growing needs of our communities,” Ms King said.
