Hume city council has received a $3 million funding boost from the state government’s Building Blocks program to help deliver Kalkallo North Community Centre.

The centre will provide families with access to a range of programs and services including, creating 198 kindergarten places for both three and four-year-olds, maternal and child health services, and a variety of multipurpose activity rooms.

This is the second round of funding council has received for the project, after a $2 million injection from the Victorian government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.

Hume mayor Carly Moore welcomed the funding.

“We thank the Victorian Government for supporting early years education and ensuring investment in resources and facilities to support local families and children,” Ms Moore said.

“This centre will support the continued roll-out of three-year-old kinder in Hume giving children an extra year of learning, playing and making friends locally.”

Works are underway on the centre and expected to be opened to the community in mid-2023.

Kalkallo North Community Centre will be located on the corner of Dwyer Street and Koeks Vista.
