A positive experience as a patient at Northern Health has inspired Harjaspreet Kaur to begin her nursing career at the very hospital where she received life-saving care.
Ms Kaur had just completed her student placement last year when she returned to Northern Health as a patient. At 33 weeks pregnant, she faced serious complications that required an emergency caesarean section to deliver her son.
“I believe I would not have survived this trauma had it not been for the care I received,” she said. “The staff were all so kind and patient with me, encouraging me so I would have the strength to eventually hold my baby.”
This compassionate care motivated Ms Kaur to join Northern Health as a graduate nurse.
She vividly recalls writing her graduate application and typing a cover letter while holding her newborn son, reflecting on the profound impact Northern Health had on her.
“With the help of the Northern Health team, especially the nurses and midwives, they helped us get through this and it has been such an amazing experience,” she said.
“I knew I wanted to be part of this beautiful team and was so excited when I was accepted. I am so proud to be here and so excited to start my career at Northern Health.”
Northern Health’s nursing and midwifery education graduate program coordinator Kate Duggan expressed her joy in Ms Kaur’s decision to join the team.
“To personally experience our staff portraying Northern Health’s values of Safe, Kind and Together is heart-warming and makes me remember just how important our values are in our everyday practice,” Ms Duggan said.
