Freeway works won’t disrupt ANZAC weekend

Expect some delays on the Hume Freeway in the coming weeks, with some big road upgrades being worked on, although ANZAC Day weekend will remain unaffected.

The southbound lanes of the Hume Freeway in Beveridge and Kalkallo between Gunns Gully Road and the Donnybrook Road off-ramp are being resurfaced.

The works require a full closure of the southbound lanes of the Hume Freeway from the Wallan off-ramp through to Donnybrook Road in Kalkallo.

This work is part of the state government’s recovery package in response to the October 2022 floods.

These works will involve resurfacing the road to maintain its condition and are necessary to prevent further degradation.

Work will run from 9pm Friday, April 19 to 5am Monday, April 22 and again from 9pm Friday, May 3 to 5am Monday, May 6.

There will be no works across the Anzac Day weekend.

Road maintenance requires dry, temperate weather conditions when removing and re-laying the road surface, meaning dates and times are subject to change due to weather conditions.

The southbound lanes of the Hume Freeway will be fully closed from the Wallan off-ramp to Donnybrook Road for each full weekend of work.

Detours will be in place throughout the duration of the works for southbound traffic on the Northern Highway and the Hume Freeway.

There will be impacts for the residents of Beveridge and Kalkallo located near to the Hume Freeway.

VicRoads is urging travellers to pan ahead and allow for at least 25 minutes of additional travel time.

Beveridge residents should allow an additional 10 minutes to travel north along the Hume Freeway to the start of the main southbound detour route in Wallan.
