Free travel for seniors

Victorian senior card holders are being encouraged to get out and explore the state this spring, with eight days of free public transport on offer from Sunday, October 5 to Sunday, October 12, just in time for all the fun events happening around Hume and Whittlesea as part of Victoria’s Seniors Festival, a major state-wide festival for and involving seniors running between Wednesday, October 1 and Friday, October 31.

The free travel initiative allows seniors to travel for no cost at all across all metropolitan trains, trams and buses, as well as regional trains, coaches and local town bus services.

To access the free travel, passengers must carry both their seniors myki and Victorian seniors card, with those travelling encouraged to touch on and off as usual, though no charges will apply.

Authorities recommend travelling during off-peak hours where possible in order to secure a seat, as services are more likely to be less crowded and readily available.

Senior card holders can also make free group reservations, with bookings available up to 19 people on train services and 12 or more on coach services.
