Encompass Care Vic is coming to Mernda.
The not-for-profit charity organisation will be holding a welcome tea on Tuesday, April 27 to celebrate the start of a pilot program in the area.
Chief operations officer Gianna Donato said the organisation, a recognised food hub in Melbourne, decided to bring a service to Mernda after receiving many requests for food during the COVID-19 pandemic from residents of Mernda, Doreen and Wollert.
“We believe it is important to … respond to the needs in our community,” Ms Donato said.
“We are excited to … meet the families who live in the area.
The program will run from 9.30am until 11.30am every Tuesday, with hopes the hours can be extended to 2pm.
“We are eager to have a permanent presence in Mernda,” Ms Donato said.
“We are grateful to Whittlesea council for giving us the space for a pilot program.
“Encompass Care partners with the Emergency Network of Whittlesea, welfare organisations and Mernda Police to respond to people’s material needs.
“We believe every person is valued and know our team can make a difference by providing a safe space, listening ear and assistance for people.”
The service will be based at the Community Activity Centre.
