Factory fire in Somerton

More than 50 firefighters responded to a waste recycling facility fire on Thursday evening (June 9) in Somerton.

Fire Rescue Victoria fire fighters along with CFA crews attended the Hume Highway factory at about 10:30pm, after an emergency phone call reported flames inside the property.

Fire firghters faced major problems created by a lack of water which resulted in the Hume Highway being closed in both directions for some time.

The fire was brought under control at about 4:10am.

The cause of the fire is not yet determined, however it is not believed to have started under suspicious circumstances.
