The state government is building more amenities across the state for people with disability, with applications for grants to build new Changing Places toilets in Victoria now open.
Each Changing Place has a height-adjustable, adult-sized changing bench, a tracking hoist system and enough space for two people, making community spaces, including popular tourist destinations and events more accessible for people with disability.
The latest round of grants, valued at up to $180,000 each, will support Victoria’s network of Changing Places facilities to continue to grow.
This new grant round follows improvements to the national Changing Places website to make it more accessible, secure and functional for all users.
Funded by the Victorian government, the redeveloped website will make it easier to find the nearest Changing Places facility in Australia and information for organisations wanting to build a Changing Places facility.
Disability, Ageing and Carers Minister Lizzie Blandthorn said the expansion of Changing Places facilities will cement the state’s status as the country’s most accessible and inclusive state.
“We’re ensuring that Victoria’s most popular tourist destinations can be visited and enjoyed by everyone,” she said.
Applications close on Friday, April 14.
