Six Hume schools are part of the expansion of the Glasses for Kids program.

The capacity of the program will triple with a $6.8 million boost, providing free vision tests and glasses for more Victorian students.

The program is offered to schools with medium or high levels of disadvantage.

The expansion includes an additional 473 schools or 74,000 students with Aitken Hill, Aitken Creek, Mickleham, Craigieburn and Willmott Park primary schools and Wayi school.

Kalkallo MP Ros Spence said they expanding this terrific program to support students struggling with undiagnosed and treatable vision problems so that they can learn and thrive.

The services are delivered by not-for-profit organisation, State Schools’ Relief, and are available for prep to grade 3 students. The funding covers individual tests from optometrists, and the students can pick frames for their prescriptions if needed, which will be delivered to the school following the visit.
