An Epping man will face court on Tuesday after being arrested in dramatic fashion by Special Operations Group police in a Bunnings car park on Friday afternoon.
Shoppers witnessed a young man in a black Mercedes Benz trying to escape from special operations and plain-clothes police in the car park of the Altona Bunnings off Millers Road.
An eyewitness said the man collided with another car before police drove a car into the front of his to prevent his escape.
Police have charged a 26-year-old, who is a member of a well-known crime family, who was the subject of an ongoing assault related investigation by the Whittlesea crime investigation unit.
He has been charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, and firearms, assault and driving offences.
He was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
