Election candidates revealed

Nominations for the November 26 state election have closed.

Early voting opened on Monday, with the Victorian Electoral Commission expecting many people to cast their vote early.

Six electorates considered to be very safe Labor seats take in the majority of Hume and Whittlesea.

Nine candidates have nominated for the new seat of Kalkallo which takes in part of the previous seat of Yuroke (Craigieburn, Mickleham, Kalkallo, Oaklands Junction and part of Bulla), as well as most of Beveridge and Wallan.

They are: Ros Spence (Labor, current Yuorke MP), Bikram Singh (Liberal), Frances Lowe (Animal Justice Party), Jimmy George Parel (independent), Muhammad Nisar Ul Murtaza (Greens), Callum John French (independent), Smiley Sandhu (New Democrats), Das Sayer (Family First Victoria) and Sergio Monsalve Tobon (Victorian Socialists).

Hume’s other new electorate, Greenvale, including part of the Broadmeadows electorate (Meadow Heights, Somerton and Westmeadows and part of Roxburgh Park]) and part of Yuroke ( Attwood, Greenvale, the remainder of Roxburgh Park and parts of Craigieburn.

There are eight candidates: Mutullah Can Olbulan (Victorian Socialists), Fatma Erciyas (independent), Usman Ghani (Liberal), Maria Bengtsson (Family First Victoria), Cristine Santa-Isabel (Greens), Lauren Styles (Freedom Party of Victoria), Iwan Walters (Labor) and Rosanna Furina (Animal Justice Party).

In Broadmeadows, MP Frank McGuire won’t contest this year’s election after failing to gain Labor party preselection. Labor’s candidate for the seat is Kathleen Matthews-Ward.

She is one of nine candidates: Baris Duzova (Liberal), Omar Hassan (Victorian Socialists), Arie Huybregts (independent), Ben Sutter (Fiona Patten’s Reason Party), Mohamad Elmustapha (independent), Bienne Tam (Family First Victoria), Joe Aguilus (Greens) and Candace Feild (Animal Justice Party).

In Whittlesea, the Yan Yean electorate is being contested by 10 candidates: Jack Wooldridge (Democratic Labour Party), James Hall (Family First Victoria), Samantha Mason (Greens), Mandy Anne Grimley (Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party), Richard Welch (Liberal), Lauren Kathage (Labor), Alexandar Krstic (Shooters, Fishers & Farmers Vic), Con Bouroutzis (Freedom Party of Victoria) and Ruth Parramore (Animal Justice. Party).

MP Danielle Green has retired after 20 years representing Yan Yean.

In Thomastown, Labor MP Bronwyn Halfpenny is one of six candidates.

She is joined by Gurdawar Singh (Liberal), Colleen McNamara (Family First Victoria), Evie Levens (Animal Justice Party), Matt Sinapi (Greens) and Kelly Cvetkova (Victorian Socialists)

Marcia Simons (Animal Justice Party), Paige Yap (Liberal), Craig Anderson (Family First Victoria), Andrew Filippopoulos (Freedom Party of Victoria), Lily D’Ambrosio (Labor) and Chris Kearney (Greens) have nominated in Mill Park. The seat is held by Ms D’Amborsio.
