Education bridges generation gap

Hundreds of grandparents headed back to school for a day earlier this month, alongside their grandchildren from St Monica’s College.

The Epping school opened its doors to the grandparents of its year 7 students, giving them a chance to see their grandchildren at work.

The day included a recital from the year 9 college band, tours of the school led by students, and a special morning tea.

Principal Brian Hanley said the event was a highlight for students, who each presented their grandparents with a handmade gift at the end of the day.

“Year 7 is an exciting time as the students progress from primary to secondary education and there is genuine excitement as they have the opportunity to welcome their grandparents on campus,” he said.
