Edgars Road M80 ramp closed

The Edgars Road Altona-bound M80 entry ramp is closed until early December as part of the Ring Road upgrade.

A detour is is place via Mahoneys Road, with motorists able to re-enter the freeway at Sydney Road.

The M80 is being upgraded between Sydney and Edgars roads to improve travel times for motorists in the northern suburbs.

The road is used by 165,000 motorists daily, according to Major Road Projects Victoria.

The upgrade includes the addition of new lanes in each direction between Sydney Road and Edgars Road; the installation of a smart freeway lane management system to better manage traffic flow; the extension of the Sydney Road on and off ramps to give drivers more time to merge; construction of new on and off ramps at Edgars Road to improve safety; improved access from the Hume Freeway to the M80 Ring Road and Edgars Road; the installation of ramp-metering technology to manage the flow of traffic onto the freeway; and upgrades to the cycling and pedestrian bridge.
