The first principal of Edgars Creek Secondary College has been named – and she’s excited about both her new role and the school’s future.
Joanne Camozzato, a teacher for more than 20 years, has most recently been the middle school principal at Mernda Central College and has worked in schools across Victoria and the ACT.
“I’m excited about working with the school community to provide young people with the opportunity to be passionate about learning while developing a strong sense of community and global responsibility,” she said.
The long-awaited school is under construction in Epping North and will open in two stages from next January.
The state government announced plans to fast-track construction of the $16.7 million school earlier this year, amid concerns about a high school shortage in the area.
Thomastown MP Bronwyn Halfpenny said she believed Ms Camozzato had the experience to ensure the school gets off to a great start.
The college will begin with year 7 students only. They will be taught at Mernda Central College for terms one and two next year, with the government to provide transport between the two schools.
Students will be taught at their newly-built school from term three onwards.
