Police nabbed two drink drivers in Roxburgh Park and Essendon Fields in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, September 28 as part of Operation Scoreboard.
About 3.45am, police intercepted a five-seater vehicle travelling at 130km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Western Ring Road at Gladstone Park. Officers discovered seven people inside, with five men crammed in the backseat allegedly not wearing seatbelts.
The driver, a 19-year-old Roxburgh Park man on a P2 probationary licence, returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.046 above his required zero limit. His car was impounded on the spot, and he will be charged on summons with drink driving, excessive speed, failing to display P plates and failing to ensure passengers were wearing seatbelts.
The five passengers, aged 18 to 21, were each fined $407.
Just over an hour later, police clocked a car travelling 156km/h in a 100km/h zone on Citylink at Essendon Fields.
The 22-year-old driver, from Western Australia, returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.122 and was served with an immediate 12-month licence suspension in Victoria and had his car impounded.
Police said both incidents formed part of Operation Scoreboard, a statewide road safety blitz over the AFL grand final long weekend aimed at reducing road trauma.
