Drag event in Campbellfield ends up in impound

Police observed over 70 cars driving on convoy along Sydney Road in Campbellfield on Wednesday night.

Officers followed the group to Tullamarine where over 100 cars appeared to be lining up to drag race.

Police said the meet was interrupted when police officers turned up and drivers took off along Mickleham Road.

Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology fitted to the highway patrol police vehicles detected an unregistered grey Holden Calais leaving the area.

The vehicle was intercepted by police and the driver, a 41-year-old Epping man, had his vehicle impounded for 30 days at a cost of $895.

He is expected to be charged with driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving whilst suspended, displaying false plates, and drug related offences.
