Doreen RSL club will be hosting an event for Veterans’ health week tomorrow.
Veterans’ health week is running until Sunday and the Doreen RSL have run two events to motivate veterans to get up and moving.
Tomorrow’s event will be held at Laurimar sporting complex between 10:00am – 12:30 pm, where veterans will be tasked with running or walking around both sports ovals.
Doreen RSL president Wes Wridgway said raising awareness of veterans health is extremely important, particularly when it comes to mental health.
“It’s very important especially for the mental health of our veterans. The get moving theme was predominantly aimed at getting people out of their houses and off their couches, exercising [in the] fresh air [and] in social environments, purely for their mental health,” he said.
The event comprises four different age groups; under-25, 26 to 35, 36 to 45 and 46-plus.
Prizes on the day are supplied by the RSL’s sponsors Anytime Fitness Doreen, Slices Restaurant Doreen and Turners Bakery Mernda.
All veterans, their families and RSL members are invited and refreshments will be provided afterwards.
