Two men from Doreen have been arrested following a high-stakes early morning theft that ended with stop sticks, a police dog unit, and a dramatic arrest.
It’s alleged the pair broke into an industrial warehouse on Riggal Street, Broadmeadows, about 3.40am on June 1, damaging a perimeter fence before stealing a large quantity of copper piping and wiring.
The stolen goods were allegedly loaded into a Kia Carnival, with the offenders fleeing the scene.
Police tracked the vehicle through Mernda before officers successfully deployed stop sticks on Epping Road.
The car came to a halt on Waterwheel Grove, where Dog Squad and general duties police arrested two men without incident.
A 50-year-old Doreen man was charged with theft, handling stolen goods, trespass, dealing with property suspected of being proceeds of crime, and going equipped to steal.
A 35-year-old Doreen man was charged with those offences plus reckless conduct endangering serious injury and unlicensed driving.
Both were bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on September 30.
