Diwali lights up the north

Diwali celebrations lit up Donnybrook and Cloverton last weekend.

Hundreds of people attended the celebrations at developer Stockland’s Katalia estate in Donnybrook and Cloverton estate in Kalkallo to mark the traditional festival of lights.

Diwali, known for its dazzling lights and cultural richness, is a five-day festival celebrated around the world that brings together communities in a celebration of light triumphing over darkness, of good triumphing over evil, and of knowledge triumphing over ignorance.

The celebrations featured festive lights, tunes from a Diwali DJ, stilt walkers, dhol drummers, Sitar and Tabla musicians and food trucks serving mouth-watering dishes.

The event culminated in a bright and lively performance from Bollywood dancers, symbolising the victory of light over darkness.

Stockland development director, Sommer Liston said vibrant events like this serve as a platform for residents to experience and appreciate different cultural traditions while deepening their connection to their neighbours.

“Stockland Diwali events have quickly become a community favourite and each year we see more and more residents as well as their friends and family joining in the festivities,” she Liston.

“We’re proud to host events like Diwali that bring together the diverse backgrounds within our community. It’s important to us that residents come together, share in each other’s traditions, and celebrate what makes us unique. It helps foster a real sense of community and has a positive impact on all of our residents.”
