Designing Broadmeadows’ future

Hume council has awarded an almost $2.5 million consultancy contract to “reshape Broadmeadows”.

to Arup Australia to deliver the Broadmeadows Precinct Roadmap design.

At the 24 November council meeting, awarded the contract for the Broadmeadows Precinct Roadmap design to Arup Australia.

Councillor Karen Sherry said the contract marks the next stage of designing Broadmeadow’s future.

“This represents a once in a generation opportunity to reshape Broadmeadows and position it as a flagship metropolitan activity centre for Melbourne’s north,” Cr Sherry said.

Cr Sherry said the contract is fully funded by a $3.3 million grant awarded to council by the federal government in 2024.

“There is no financial impact on the council,” she said.

Cr Sherry said some of the key benefits of the contract include moving beyond plans and concepts to investment-ready proposals.

“These project partners… will deliver a precinct-scale roadmap… to secure projects that deliver jobs, housing… community services and transport improvements,” she said.

“This will shape Broadmeadow’s future at scale and speed.”

Cr Naim Kurt said the contract will return a heart to the community.

“To make sure [the community is] not just houses on top of houses, but [has] services to meet their needs as well,” he said

Cr Kurt said he hopes the work leads to future funding for the Broadmeadows train station.

“It’s not good enough that the train station has not been upgraded,” he said.

“I’m hoping to see some tangible benefits flow through from this.”
