Curious cat in Kalkallo rescued

A daring feline adventure almost ended in disaster in Kalkallo on Saturday, June 21, but thanks to the swift response of the CFA, it turned into a purr-fect rescue.

About 2.30pm on 21 June, volunteers from the Kalkallo Fire Brigade were called to a property where a cat had become trapped in a tight space between a fence and a garage.

What began as a curious exploration quickly turned into a high-stakes mission to save the distressed animal.

Incident controller Melissa Trueman said the rescue was more complicated than initially anticipated.

“Initially, the cat seemed less than enthusiastic about being rescued,” Ms Trueman said.

“It was clearly distressed and made it known that it wasn’t entirely convinced we were there to help.”

Despite the cat’s reluctance, firefighters remained patient, calm, and careful, navigating the narrow gap and eventually managing to free the animal without injury.

“The rescue had its tricky moments, but with a bit of perseverance we were able to get the cat to safety,” Ms Trueman said.

“A few comforting cuddles from the crew after the rescue went a long way in easing its nerves.”

The cat was handed over to the original caller, who took it to a veterinary clinic for precautionary checks.

It is now safe and being cared for by a local animal rescue.
