Crime has risen in Whittlesea and Hume, according to the latest quarterly statistics released by the agency responsible for tracking Victoria’s crime.
In Whittlesea, a total of 18,789 offences were recorded, an almost 18 per cent increase in 12 months to September.
According to the Crime Statistics Agency, 47 per cent of criminal offences remained unsolved as of September.
The most common offences were stealing from a motor vehicle (2756) and breaching a family violence order (2221).
Epping had the most recorded offences, followed by Thomastown, Mill Park, Mernda and Lalor.
Across Hume there was a 12.5 per cent increase in offences recorded (23,609) and over 48 per cent remained unsolved.
Stealing from a motor vehicle was the top offence recorded (3620), followed by other theft and breach of a family violence order.
Craigieburn recorded the most number of offences, followed by Broadmeadows, Sunbury, Campbellfield and Mickleham.
Across Hume and Whittlesea offences occurred most often at houses, and on the street.
In both municipalities, the rate of offences relative to population size, was the highest since 2020.
Family violence offences increased by more than 3 per cent in both municipalities over the 12 months to September, with each recording more than 3000 incidences.
Over 75 per cent of affected family members in both municipalities were female.
