Police intercepted a 28-year-old Craigieburn man in Laverton over the weekend, who was detected travelling more than twice the speed limit and with twice the blood alcohol limit.
Police said they first noticed the behaviour of the man in a Ford Falcon, when officers were stopped at the intersection of Forsyth Road and Sayers Road in Truganina when the man ran a red light at about 11pm on Sunday, March 5.
The Westgate Highway Patrol unit pursued the vehicle and detected it travelling at 175 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
Police also witnessed the driver running four red lights before he was pulled over by police on Fitzgerald Road in Laverton.
The 28-year-old Craigieburn man returned a positive breath test and then furnished an evidentiary breath test result of .118.
Police impounded the man’s car for 30 days at a cost of $1006.10.
Police expected to charge the man on summons in relation to drink driving, speeding and traffic-related offences.
