VICSES Craigieburn unit deputy controller Harminder Singh has received the Stuart Taylor Award trophy for “Best Performance of the Games” at the opening of the Victoria Police and Emergency Services Games.

Mr Singh was awarded at the launch, held on Tuesday, February 21, for his excellence in the field of competition, and for his enthusiasm and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the games.

Now in his eighth years as a member of the VICSES Craigieburn Unit, Mr Singh is a qualified road crash rescue specialist.

The games are open to the public for viewing, and the purpose is to encourage emergency service workers to come together, invest in new friendships and participate in a competition that promotes physical and mental wellbeing.

Victoria Police games federation president deputy commissioner Rick Nugent said that that while emergency crews worked together each day to protect the community, he was looking forward to seeing fierce and friendly competition at this year’s games.

“Most times we interact with our emergency services partners is at a critical incident where lives are on the line,” he said.

“This event is one of the few occasions where we can come together each year and strengthen that unique bond in a positive and fun environment.

“Emergency services workers dedicate their lives to helping others in need. It’s an incredibly selfless role.

“These games give them the chance to break away from that grind, come together as a team and prioritise their own physical and mental wellbeing.”

The games will be held across several locations in Melbourne and throughout regional Victoria, and will run for a week from March 27.

Originally comprising of seven different categories of sport, the games have since been expanded to 50 categories, including cricket, cross country, rowing, rock climbing, tennis, and running.

Registrations are still open for emergency service members wanting to participate and interested spectators.
