A 22-year-old Craigieburn man has been charged and had his luxury car seized following an illegal hoon event in Truganina last month.

Police allege that two vehicles were involved in a street race on Boundary Road at about 12.15am on Sunday March 13.

Air Wing police witnessed the cars allegedly racing at more than 230km/h in an 80km/h zone.

North West Metro Region police executed search warrants in Craigieburn and Caroline Springs on Tuesday April 5, seizing two cars with a combined value of $170,000.

The Craigieburn man has been charged with reckless conduct endangering persons, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, committing an indictable offence while on bail, driving in a dangerous manner, unlawfully engaging in a speed trial, exceeding the speed limit and being a learner driver without accompanying driver.

He was expected to front the Sunshine Magistrates Court today (April 5).

A 21-year-old Caroline Springs man was also charged and had his vehicle seized for similar offences.

North West Metro Region Operation Achilles Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Borg condemned the reckless behaviour.

“Racing around the streets in our community is not just harmless fun – when you’re travelling at ludicrously high speeds with spectators lining the road, even the slightest error behind the wheel will result in devastation and tragedy,” Act Snr Sgt Borg said.

“With hundreds of offenders already charged as part of Operation Achilles, it should be pretty clear to those involved it’s only a matter of time before you receive a knock on the door if you’re not already caught by us on the night.”
