While some grandmothers knit jumpers for their grandkids, Craigieburn’s Megan Britton is knitting for orphaned lambs.
Ms Britton has been knitting the jumpers for lambs owned by farmers battling severe drought conditions.
She also knits jumpers to donate to animal rescue organisations who rehabilitate penguins affected by oil slicks.
Ms Britton said the lambs’ jumpers help to keep them warm in harsh conditions while also providing comfort.
The penguin jumpers stop them cleaning toxic oil away from their feathers with their beaks.
Ms Britton said knitting was a life-long passion.
“When I heard about the orphaned lambs, I saw it as an opportunity to put my hobby to good use and had seen the lamb jumpers on television. I had been knitting for the penguins for years so knew I’d be able to make jumpers for the lambs too,” she said.
Ms Britton has even managed to encourage some of her friends at Stockland’s Highlands Retirement Village to begin knitting jumpers for the lambs.
