Craigieburn Cricket Club to host cricketing superstar

Craigieburn Cricket club will be visited by sporting superstar, Melbourne Renegades cricket captain Sophie Molineux for an all-girls program with Cricket Australia these school holidays.

Molineux will be providing training tips and tricks during a question and answer session on the day.

The program is thanks to Cricket Victoria as part of the ‘This Girl Can’ program, encouraging women and girls to get involved in sports and get active

Craigieburn Cricket club president Gerard Laffan feels honoured that Craigieburn has been selected for the visit and hopes it’ll be an inspiring visit for the club’s junior girls and senior women, to meet someone who’s crafted a career out of the sport.

“This will hopefully encourage people to come have a look and get more people into the game,” Laffan said.

As well as spending the morning with Sophie participants can also get involved in a “Woolworths Cricket Blast” program for the juniors on the day.

“It really gives the girls an opportunity to meet Sophie, have some skill development with her in the blast program in the morning and it provides an opportunity you don’t usually get, to ask her how she started and how she got to where she is now,” Laffan said.

Molineux will be at DS Aitken Reserve, Craigieburn Road, Craigieburn on Tuesday, September 27, 10.30am-11.30am.
