COVID-19 fragments in Hume wastewater

The health department is continuing to urge Hume residents to watch for COVID-19 symptoms after the virus was detected in wastewater from the municipality.

The department said there has been “a number of strong, repeat detections” of COVID-19 fragments in wastewater in the Glenroy-Broadmeadows area.

The catchment includes Attwood, Broadmeadows, Coolaroo, Gladstone Park, Greenvale, Jacana, Meadows Heights, Roxburgh Park and Westmeadows.

“Anyone who lives, works or has visited the above suburbs between [Wednesday] July 28 and [Friday] August 6 is urged to watch for the slightest of COVID-19 symptoms and get tested as soon as possible if any symptoms develop,” the health department said in a statement.

The health department said the detections indicated that it was likely there are undetected positive cases of the virus in the catchment area.
