COVID-19 cases rise in Hume

Eight new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Hume since yesterday, latest Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) data reveals.

There are now 26 confirmed cases of the various in Hume, up from 18 yesterday.

There are 14 cases in Whittlesea, up from 13 yesterday.

Elsewhere in the northern suburbs, 43 cases have been recorded in Banyule, 12 in Nillumbik and 37 in Moreland.

There are 917 cases of COVID-19 in Victoria – an increase of 96 from yesterday.

According to DHHS, four cases of coronavirus in pre-school children were reported yesterday. Three of the children are under 12 months old, while the other child is one-year-old.

DHHS said there have been five confirmed cases in pre-school aged children.

The department said there have been 32 cases of COVID-19 in Victoria that may have been acquired through community transmission.

More than 45,000 tests have been carried out to date.

There are 29 people in hospital, including four patients in intensive care.

Victoria’s chief health officer, Professor Brett Sutton said these are unprecedented times.

“Everyone who’s unwell must isolate themselves and everyone who’s been told they’re in quarantine either as a returned traveller or close contact must do so,” Professor Sutton said.

“Social distancing will save lives. Everyone needs to comply with restrictions in place to keep yourself, your loved ones and the whole community safe.

“Our message is clear: if you can stay home, you must stay home.”
