Council paves road management

Whittlesea council has endorsed its latest version of a road management plan to guide the management and maintenance of more than 1497 kilometres of council owned roads at its Tuesday 14 October meeting.

The updated management plan will also provide a framework for how council manages the 2809 kilometres of pathways, 124 bridges and 2403 kilometres of kerb and channels it owns.

Council revises and updates its road management plan every four years, with the latest changes coming after RACV’s My Melbourne Road campaign revealed some of Melbourne’s most dangerous roads sit in Epping and Thomastown.

The plan aims to set the standards for how council responds to the maintenance and management of potholes, overgrown vegetation, dumped rubbish, cracked pavement, and other road and footpath faults.

Mayor Martin Taylor said the management plan is pivotal in guiding council on the management of the important community network.

“Our road network is an important part of our community. The Road Management Plan helps us take care of our roads, paths, and related infrastructure in a clear and responsible way,” Cr Taylor said.

“It shows our commitment to keeping these networks safe, reliable, and well maintained for everyone who uses them.”
