Contaminated water warning

Yarra Valley Water has issued a contaminated water notice for more than 80 Melbourne suburbs following last night’s storms.

Impacted suburbs include Attwood, Broadmeadows, Bundoora, Campbellfield, Coolaroo, Craigieburn, Dallas, Doreen, Epping, Greenvale, Lalor, Meadow Heights, Mernda, Mill Park, Roxburgh Park, Somerton, South Morang, Thomastown, Westmeadows and Wollert.

Residents in the affected suburbs are being advised to boil their water before drinking it.

Yarra Valley Water said the potential water quality issue was a result of electrical damage caused by storms overnight.

“Some water may have entered our drinking water supply network that had not been treated to the usual standard,” the company said.

“Residents should bring water to a rolling boil before drinking, washing, preparing food, preparing baby formula, brushing teeth and making ice until further notice.”

The issue is expected to be resolved later today.
