More than 120 community groups, including a historical society, will share in more than $380,000 from Hume council.

The funding will be provided to the groups as part of the council’s 2019 community grants program. Among the recipients was the Craigieburn Historical Interest Group, which will receive $1000.

The group, which formed 20 years ago and is based at the Newbury Child and Community Centre, will use the grant to help with its efforts to record local history.

Other recipients include the Campbellfield Heights Primary School community hub, which received funding for its playgroup program, and the Sunbury U3A, which was given a grant for a ballroom dancing event.

Mayor Carly Moore said Hume was fortunate to have many active, dedicated and diverse local groups working to make Hume a great place to be. “Through the community grants program, we are able to provide a funding boost that supports these groups to build on their success and pursue new opportunities,” she said.

The council also provided three groups with multi-year grants. Among the recipients was Campbellfield’s Second Chance Animal Rescue which will use the funding to educate and assist disadvantaged community members to care for their pets.
