Community celebrations will be held in South Morang and Craigieburn on Thursday to mark Australia Day.
Whittlesea will mark the occasion with a free evening concert on the lawn outside the council offices on Ferres Boulevard.
These festivities will start at 6pm with local soul-funk band Brand New Bag. They will be followed by a performance from The Band Who Knew Too Much.
The event will also feature children’s activities including a petting zoo and arts tent, a barbecue, food stalls and a fireworks display.
The council’s Australia Day awards will be presented throughout the evening.
Meanwhile, Hume residents will celebrate Australia Day at the council’s awards ceremony at the Hume Global Learning Centre, Central Park Avenue, Craigieburn, from 9am.
Awards will be presented to the city’s citizen of the year, young citizen of the year and community event of the year.
Mayor Drew Jessop said the awards recognise people who work to make Hume a better place.
“There are many people in our community who take the time out of their busy lives to help and inspire others,” Cr Jessop said.
“These awards recognise those who proudly display these qualities.” Hume Australia Day festivities will also feature a citizenship ceremony.
