It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Melbourne’s north, with the Whittlesea Community Carols Choir set to begin rehearsals!

Rehearsals are starting on October 11 and will be held every week in the lead up to December 15, when the choir will perform at the Whittlesea Carols by Candlelight.

Led by a professional choir leader, the rehearsals will be a fantastic opportunity to meet new people from within the local area, as well as getting to enjoy the fun of singing in a choir.

Mernda resident Shelley Matthews moved to Australia from Ireland more than a decade ago, and has been a part of the choir since 2013, she couldn’t speak any higher of it.

“I was looking around for social groups, just trying to make some friends and get out in the community and I stumbled across a flyer at the shops for the choir,” she explained.

“I really enjoyed it right from the start, I love Christmas, carols, and singing.”

Ms Matthews was heavily pregnant when she joined the choir 10 years ago, and joked that her daughter is the group’s youngest ever member.

“You don’t have to be able to sing to join, the group is open and accepting of people of all ages and singing abilities, my dad comes down from Ireland over the holiday period and just comes and gets involved as much as he can.

“It is a great chance to meet new people and embrace the Christmas spirit,” said Ms Matthews.

Rehearsals are every Wednesday in the Whittlesea council offices, from 7-9pm.
