Motorists will save six minutes while driving between Epping Central and Mill Park during peak hour after the Childs Road upgrade was completed last week, according to Major Road Projects Victoria.

The upgraded road opened on Friday, September 30.

According to the state government, the works added a new lane in each direction in a bid to remove bottlenecks and improve travel times for the 25,000 drivers that use Childs Road daily.

Extra lanes were also added at the Darebin Creek Bridge, which was previously a major choke poitn for drivers.

Mill Park MP Lily D’Ambrosio said the extra lanes will make a real difference to road users.

Thomastown MP Bronwyn Halfpenny said: “We’re getting on with the job and opening up 1.5 kilometres of extra lanes that are slashing travel times and boosting safety for drivers travelling between Epping and Mill Park.”

The government said the upgraded Childs Road will improve access to Pacific Epping, Northern Hospital, Melbourne Polytechnic and Epping Railway Station.
