A northern suburbs charity has been inundated with calls from people seeking food and support in recent weeks.

Bundoora-based Encompass Care packages and delivers food parcels which are tailored to the individual needs of the recipient.

The parcels are delivered across the northern suburbs.

Chief operations officer Gianna Donato said the charity’s crisis hotlines was receiving about 130 calls from families each week.

“This week, we have delivered 70 food parcels to 21 suburbs,” she said.

“We are working around the clock.”

Ms Donato said the charity, which is supported by Encompass Church, had spent thousands of dollars keeping its pantry stocked, while generous community members have also been dropping off donations and volunteering their time.

She said the organisation was preparing for an increase in demand for its services as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

“It would be fantastic if people could donate…it’s such a privilege to be able to support other people,” Ms Donato said.
