The 125th anniversary of the KU Craigieburn Children’s Centre has been celebrated with a plant donation drive, with proceeds going to a local children’s charity.

KU Craigieburn Children’s Centre is run by KU – the first provider of early childhood education and care in Australia.

The centre recognised their special milestone by organising a Plant Donation Drive and donating the proceeds to a local Aboriginal children’s charity, Children’s Ground.

KU Craigieburn director Samiksha Sharma said the drive aligned with the centre’s principles.

“We chose this activity because it aligns with our service’s commitment to sustainable practices and to fostering positive links with our community,” she said.

“The children were able to get their hands dirty with planting and learn about the importance of the natural environment.

“We selected our charity as its mission statement aligns well with what KU Craigieburn stands for, and involving it meant that we were able to have valuable discussions with the children about the meaning of charity.”

Ms Sharma said a recent routine assessment of the facility provided another reason to celebrate.

“KU Craigieburn’s recent Assessment and Rating result of Exceeding in all seven Quality Areas of the National Quality Framework is testament to the 125 year legacy of KU’s long and ongoing commitment to better outcomes for young children and families,” she said.

“This gave us double the reason to celebrate.”

KU Craigieburn provides early childhood education for children aged 0 – 5 years and is currently taking enrolments.
