The CFA have unveiled its latest truck: the prototype light tanker.
Considered a leap forward in firefighting capabilities, the new prototype features improved safety, manoeuvrability and versatility compared to its larger predecessors, as well as being more cost effective.
Built on an Isuzu NPS crew cab chassis, the prototype has 4×4 capability, a seating for four firefighters, two high pressure pumps and a water carrying capacity of 2,000 litres, with 500 litres dedicated to crew protection.
Additional improved safety features include latching crew doors with alarms, a one-metre high side shielding, a deck camera, awning and intercom and in-cabin touch screen controls.
The new prototype is the product of the Light Tanker Working Group comprising representatives from various firefighting agencies, set up in late 2020.
The truck went on a roadshow around the state to give firefighters the opportunity to examine the vehicle up close, with crews from both rural and urban brigades offering positive feedback.
