Census snapshot: your average Hume resident

Hume is home to residents from more than 160 countries living across 27 suburbs, making it a diverse and culturally enriched municipality.

New census data released on Tuesday, June 29, revealed just who your average Hume resident is.

The average person is a 33-year-old male, who’s married, with one child.

He was born in Australia, has Indian ancestry, and both of his parents were born overseas and is Catholic.

The most common long-term health conditions he suffers from are asthma, mental health issues, and arthritis.

He lives in a home with three others, has a median weekly household income of $1703 and median monthly mortgage repayment of $1806.

Population: 243,901, up by 21 per cent.

Religious affiliation: Catholic, 27.5 per cent, no religion, 19 per cent, Islam, 18.9 per cent, not stated, 6.2 per cent.

The top ancestries in Hume, included Australian, 19.2 per cent, English, 16.9 per cent, Italian, 7.7 per cent, Turkish, 6.8 per cent, and Indian, 6.6 per cent.

Language, other than English, used at home: Arabic, 9.3 per cent, Turkish, 6.1 per cent, Punjabi, 5.2 per cent, Assyrian Neo-Aramaic, 3.5 per cent and Chaldean Neo-Aramaic, 3.1 per cent.
