CCTV of vehicle released following Fawkner shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives have released CCTV of a car they are looking to identify as part of their investigation into the non-fatal shooting of a man in Fawkner in June.

It’s believed the black Ford Focus, which was seen driving on Barry Road in Coolaroo on Saturday, June 25, was involved in the day’s events.

The Ford Focus was captured on CCTV driving westbound on Barry Road – opposite Upfield train station – at 9.49am, before returning and travelling back in the opposite direction eastbound at 9.55am.

Investigators believe the car is likely connected to the male occupants of a Mazda SUV, who, later on in the day, fired shots into a Mercedes station wagon on Box Forest Road in Fawkner shortly before noon.

The offending Mazda fled, crashing into a fire hydrant and pole on Box Forest Road near Sydney Road.

The two occupants ran from the damaged vehicle – one fled on foot and attempted to hide in a bin at the rear of a fast food restaurant on Sydney Road in Fawkner.

The second male carjacked a nearby Ford Territory wagon before driving it to Epping, where he was captured on CCTV walking the streets.

The Ford Territory was located in Brunswick Drive, Epping about 10pm.

The carjacking victims, a female driver and child, were not physically injured during the incident.

The victim of the shooting, a 30-year-old Preston man, was taken to Fawkner Police Station with gunshot wounds.

He was transported to hospital in a critical condition but was later released.

Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, with CCTV/dash cam footage or with information on the vehicle or the men in these images is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
