Yan Yean MP Danielle Green
It’s wonderful to see our local families embrace the new freedoms afforded by our high vaccine status. One of the happiest things that I have seen recently has been costumed children enjoying trick or treating in their local neighbourhoods.
I’m sure we’ve all gained a new appreciation for the long hours our frontline healthcare workers have dedicated to making sure that we’re all receiving the care we need – I’ve met many healthcare workers who live in our local area, and a heartfelt thanks to all the work they’re doing for us.
In the difficult days still to come, we cannot forget that the virus is still out in the community. The only way we can lighten the load on our healthcare staff is to make sure that we all get vaccinated and continue to remain COVIDSafe.
Healthcare is a priority of the state government, which is why we’ve continued to invest in key health infrastructure and services for Victorians.
Mernda Community Hospital:
Minister for Health, Martin Foley MP, has now confirmed that the site for Whittlesea’s new Community Hospital will be in the heart of Mernda.
The hospital will be built in the Mernda Town Centre, now under construction, located right near the train station to ensure easy access via public transport.
The Mernda Community Hospital is of just one of 10 new community hospitals close to major growth areas across Victoria, to make sure that we all have access to healthcare when we need it most.
Local Pop-up Vax Clinics:
Neighbourhood pop ups are the next stage of our vaccination program aimed at lifting vaccination rates in priority postcodes.
Whittlesea Community Activity Centre (57 Laurel St, Whittlesea) hosted a neighbourhood pop up vaccination site on Thursday, November 11.
Thanks so much to our friends at Hazel Glen College for having quickly cooperated with health officials to open a pop-up vax hub in Doreen last month.
The Hazel Glen site was instrumental in boosting vaccination rates in the North – over 1000 doses were administered at this site.
Great job team! And thank you to everyone who got vaccinated.
If you’re yet to receive your vax, Victorians can book a vaccine at a state-run centre by visiting www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/vaccine or calling 1800 675 398, or through your local GP or pharmacist: www.covid-vaccine.healthdirect.gov.au/eligibility.
Community Health in Whittlesea:
Community health has a proud history and has been an integral part of the health offer in the township of Whittlesea.
I was delighted to see the recent announcement by Health Minister, Martin Foley that DPV Health had received $328,300 for multisite master planning and that this includes plans for a new purpose-built building for Whittlesea township.
This funding will also contribute towards future proofing a number of DPV Health facilities to meet rapidly growing demand across the Whittlesea and Hume local government areas.
School Mental Health Fund:
Supporting the mental health needs of our younger generations is so important for the future of our state, and school kids have done it especially tough as they’ve navigated the challenges of remote learning throughout the pandemic.
Schools across the Yan Yean electorate will be able to pick the mental health tools that best match the needs of their students, with the Victorian Government’s Schools Mental Health Fund providing a suite of options to give students tailored support.
An additional 74 primary schools across Victoria – including Mernda Park Primary, Mernda Primary and Whittlesea Primary – will join the Mental Health in Primary Schools Pilot in 2022 – bringing the total number of schools in the pilot to 100.
