Cameras catch drivers out

Two cameras on the Western Ring Road in Broadmeadows caught out nearly 15,000 drivers in the 2020-21 financial year according to new data.

The data on the cameras saves lives website revealed the top 50 locations where safety camera infringements had been issued between April and June last year, and for the whole of the 2020-21 financial year.

A camera approximately 1600 metres west of Sydney Road on the Ring Road was ranked sixth in terms of infringements issued in the last financial year.

The camera which covers lane four of the road, resulted in 9390 infringements being issued. A camera in the same spot but covering lane three, was also ranked in the top 50, with 5074 infringements issued.

An intersection at Rosanna Road and Darebin Street in Heidelberg continues to be the top speed camera in terms of infringements issued.

In the 2020-21 financial year, 53,739 infringements were issued from footage taken from that camera.

A speed camera at Melbourne Airport continues to catch drivers out.

A camera at the intersection of Terminal Drive and Centre Road resulted in 7421 infringements being used in the three months to June.

It had the second most infringements issued in the 2020-21 financial year, with 24,332 infringements issued.

The total number of infringements issued for the 2020-21 financial year was 384,750.
