Residents of an “inadequate” Whittlesea road have called for council to upgrade it before a major accident occurs.
Eleven residents of Milky Lane, also known as Wildwood Road, submitted a joint letter to council’s Monday, August 15 council meeting expressing their concerns about the road.
The letter stated that recent works on Wallan Road, which resulted in traffic being detoured along Milky Lane to access the Whittlesea township, exacerbated problems with the road.
“There are now more road users along this particular section of road as subdivision and subsequent housing has occurred,” the residents wrote.
“There is a greater through put of use as people traverse from Wallan Road to Yea Road and vice versa with a greater number of heavy vehicles.
“The eastern end of Milky Lane is heavily utilised in November when the Whittlesea Show occurs and this is the entrance for the horse exhibitors and some of the car parking.”
The wrote that Milky lane is a “narrow, winding lane with substantial large tree growth and in one area, significant vertical fall”.
There is also a single-lane bridge on a semi-blind, right-angle curve which needs remedial work, the residents said.
“The road is inadequate for the traffic that uses it and the road needs to be upgraded before a major accident happens,” the residents wrote.
A report on the joint letter will be presented to council’s Monday, November 21 meeting for the administrators to consider.
