The floor of Broadmeadows town hall has been cut up in the name of art.

Artist Robbie Rowlands recently cut into the floor of the 50-year old hall, removing a section that will be used in a sculpture to be displayed in the hall once its $32 million redevelopment is complete.

The sculpture is part of an art project being undertaken by Rowlands, Hume council, RMIT’s Centre for Art Society and Transformation and Kerstin Thompson Architects.

As part of the art project, a temporary exhibition, called

Crossing the Floor (This hall breathes), will be at the town hall from June 1 to 3.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to recorded their memories of the town hall for a multimedia exhibition that will be displayed when the redevelopment is complete in 2019.
