Doreen drivers have a reason to celebrate, with the Bridge Inn Road upgrades underway to improve the intersection at Bassetts Road and Vantage Point Boulevard.

Work being undertaken includes upgrades to existing lanes and medians, installation of traffic signals, and building new turning lanes, kerbs and sections of shared use paths for both pedestrians and cyclists.

To keep workers safe during the upgrades, Bassetts Road and Vantage Point Boulevard will temporarily close at Bridge Inn Road from October 17, 2023 until early March 2024.

Through-traffic on Bridge Inn Road will be maintained during the upgrades.

A number of detours will be put in place to assist those needing to travel through the closed areas, but Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) is urging travellers to plan their journeys and allow for delays in their commute.

The Bridge Inn Road upgrade will add additional lanes in both directions between Plenty and Yan Yean roads.

MRPV program director Adrian Furner reitereated the importance of the planned works and upgrades.

“The improvements to the intersection at Bridge Inn Road are critical to achieving the upgrade’s aim of helping you get home safer and sooner,” he said.

“We thank the community for its patience as we make important improvements to the intersection of Bassetts Road and Vantage Point Boulevard as part of the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade.”

Other improvements include upgrades to key intersections and the construction of safety barriers and shared walking and cycling paths to improve safety and connectivity.

The upgrade also includes a new bridge over Plenty River, while the existing 155-year-old heritage bridge will be repurposed as a dedicated walking and cycling path.
