The Craigieburn War Memorial and Remembrance committee hopes its new children’s book will spark conversations about Anzac Day between grandparents and their grandchildren.

The book, called Hope’s Anzac Adventure, was written by committee member and Craigieburn Salvation Army captain Jo Brookshaw, and was illustrated by local artist Betty Maher.

Ms Brookshaw said the book is about a girl and her grandfather who go on an adventure in Craigieburn and discover the war memorial at Anzac park along the way.

She said the book features local landmarks that will be familiar to children.

Ms Brookshaw said the book aimed to encourage children to learn more about Anzac Day and for grandparents to share their stories.

“For us, the most important thing was to help the older generations to connect with the younger generation about Anzac Day,” she said.

“It is important to share the stories of Anzac Day with the next generation.”

Ms Maher said the book gave young children an insight into Anzac Day.

“I think it is a very worthwhile cause, it is a lovely story,” she said.

The Craigieburn War Memorial and Remembrance Committee has gifted two copies of the book to libraries, primary schools, kindergartens and child care centres in Craigieburn, Mickleham, Greenvale and Roxburgh Park.

“I think that is a wonderful thing… for young children to be able to see and read this book,” Ms Maher said.
