Bassetts Road reopened

Bassetts Road, Doreen has reopened ahead of schedule after being closed since October.

The road has been closed as part of the Big Build works on the Bridge Inn Road upgrade, so crews could safely complete major works at its intersection with Bridge Inn Ro

The road reopened on Monday.

As part of the works, crews installed around 280 metres of kerbs and drainage and laid 75 tonnes of asphalt – roughly equivalent in weight to 37 dual-cab utes.

Once fully complete, the improvements at the intersection will include new traffic lights, road surface, medians, turning lanes, kerbs and sections of walking and cycling paths.

The improvements will be vital to the project’s aim of safer, more-reliable travel on Bridge Inn Road and improved access to Mernda’s train station and town centre.

The Bridge Inn Road Upgrade is adding extra lanes in both directions between Plenty and Yan Yean roads.

Major Road Projects Victoria program director Adrian Furner they’re pleased to have been able to reopen Bassetts Road ahead of time.

“The reopening restores a vital link for the community to homes, businesses and education facilities,” he said.

“Once fully complete, the improvements to the intersection at Bassetts Road and Vantage Point Boulevard will be a major step to achieving the upgrade’s aim of helping drivers get home sooner and safer.”
